Cosmeston 2008

Event Report

Cosmeston remains one of our most favourite venues and we always enjoy going there, despite, as occasionally happens, it can get a bit wet. Well VERY wet really. Traditionally it attacks us with a mix of sunburn and soaking, but over the last two years the balance has shifted somewhat. This year we had a glorious day in the sunshine on the Saturday, when we spent our time doing camp duties, archery, a bit of drill and the all important socialising.

On the first event day though the heavens opened up and the crowds, perhaps wisely, stayed away.

The arena events were cancelled pretty early on but with our new tents coming into force we were able to set up some pretty impressive covered displays

and what public did arrive was welcomed into out humble homes

and the day was largely spent on sewing, mending, weaving

...and socialising again.

.

..and yes, socialising is a euphamism for eating, drinking and making merry... but not a drop of alcohol during a public show... ever.... although the Cosmeston long barn at night...well that's another matter.

Determined to make the most of things, Ash used his considerable brain power

to devise a new drill movement, we can now go from 'Kosmete' to 'Kosmoston'... although the cynics amongst us think he probably stole that from Colchester last year??

Hywel, sadly, got a little too enthusiastic watching the football in the week before and ended up tearing a ligament in his leg, so had to cancel 2 days before the event... and he then reenforced his predicament by actually turning up to tell us again that he couldn't attend.

Now that's a hoplite!

Despite the bad weather though, and Monday was a lot worse, it didn't seem to spoil the mood or our enjoyment.

It is always good to meet up and renew frienships

and everyone was determined that having made an enourmous effort to get there...well perhaps not Stephan, Stephanie, Matt and Syreeta who had not, to be fair, travelled that far!!...they were going to make the most of it.
