The Hoplite Association is essentially a collection of like-minded individuals who enjoy history, enjoy each others company, enjoy socialising and, above all, enjoy dressing up!

The Hoplite Association has been in existence for a few years now and throughout that time there have been a stream of members, dreaming of wearing panoply and marching in phalanx. Some have been with us from the beginning, some have joined along the way and some have moved on to pastures new.

As a society we strive to represent generic hoplites, rather than to create a phalanx representing a specific city state, and thus there is a basic 'understanding' that every shield design is unique.

In the early days enthusiasm and creativity were rife, but all creativity was grounded in pictoral evidence.

Below are those shields that we shall see no more, as offerings to the gods and in memory of comrades in arms.
