Clivedon 2005Event ReportFollowing a very small event last year to allow the National Trust to 'test-out' what reenactment could do for their venues, this event was really the first 'proper' show - and what a show it was. For us there was the chance to meet up with some of the very best groups out there and to swop stories, renew friendships and 'borrow' the odd glass of alcohol (enough said). But it was also a chance to make a lot of new friends with the public - many of whom had not experienced a reenactment show before. Including one elder brother of a member who, on leaving, said that this way of delivering history should be compulsory for every schoolchild! Something that a many of the people featured on these pages will probably agree with. The Saturday was marred with the most torrential of downpours and the re-enactor tents quickly filed with members of the public seeking shelter. A first-hand experience of the effectiveness of historic tents! To their credit, all those we spoke to just shrugged it off as a part of the whole experience and returned on the Sunday to complete their visit. For us this was an excellent show - quite a few membership enquiries, a deluge of questions and, at the end, an invitation to return next year. Not a very difficult decision for us at at all! The picture of the weekend? Well perhaps this sums it up?
... and the winner of the 'wet T-shirt' contest is.....
..and this week's competition - "Whose chiton shrunk in the rain?" Answers on a postcard addressed directly to 'Wulf'.
