Colchester 2006Event ReportBuilding upon previous years, 2006 was the first 2 day event at Colchester and that gave us the chance to build a proper camp and spend a little time relaxing.... or at least that was the plan. There must have been a good 30,000 people through the gates on the Saturday alone and with having 4 arena commitments that day (explained away afterwards as a slight planning mistake by the organisers!!) we never seemed to draw breath. That said, everyone pulled together as always and whilst we were under blazing sun for both days, a good time was had by all and sunburn and hydration problems were very minimal. We are clearly getting the hang of this now. Of particular mention was the "Greek Feast", prepared this time by Amy. To say that there was plenty of food and variety on both days would be an understatement, and a few people were suffering from overeating, but the spread was excellent and inventive. Some new recipies and one particular item of mention - the lemon preserve. Yum, yum. Pity about the fish though! Another activity of note was the slight change in the arena display to let the Scyths shoot real arrows at people. Now one or two of the targets (Hoplites) might not have felt quite so comfy with this but by the look on Adam's face and the competition between Sev and Sarah to see who could loose the most arrows before having to draw their personal weapons, it seems this is here to stay!!!!!! |
First, let us have a look at some of our many visitors.....

..and the final picture, for this page, a lady who has every right to carry the Spartan shield. A special picture for her to send back to relatives in Greece...
