Cosmeston 2005

Event Report

As always, Cosmeston proved to be an excellent start to the season and on an 'official' level we increased the living history content of our displays, managed to feed all members with authentic ancient Greek food for both event days without causing food poisoning from the campfire (many thanks for the fresh barley bread and honey pancakes to Amy and Tania by the way) and moved the arena display up to a new level with the 're-enactment of the Battle of Marathon'....!

We also learned a valuable lesson - if there is a P.A. system available, use it..... but at least Cropper almost losing his voice had some benefits.

To catalogue the enthusiasm and contribution of individual members would take far too much space but comment must be made of Paul (of the smiley shield - right) and his recruitment efforts.. I think we need them a bit taller though??

Socially, well the famed Cosmeston long barn / beer hall holds many a secret now and we are still awaiting photographic evidence if anyone can provide it.

Sadly we didn't capture any of the 'bare bottom' wrestling in photographs, although, for some, the images will be etched in their minds forever. The one photograph that does epitomise the event though is this one.....

... but you had to be there to understand it. Recovered yet Sarah?

Ahh the joys of alcohol....

a wonderful thing, co-operation,

... and the prize for the best garden gnome goes to...

Spot the new recruit....

of course some people slept in plastic tents

Despite years of training, big shields and fancy helmets even the hardiest hoplite is unable to stand up to the massed spears of the army of 'nanos'!
