Cosmeston 2006Event Report"Rain rain rain rain, beautiful rain rain rain, rain rain rain rain, beautiful rain rain rain." A line, if you don't know, from the excellent album of Paul Simon called The Rythm of the Saints and an apt description for the first part of this event. Of course, Bank Holiday, UK, we expected no more, but camping in a lake was quite an experience for some and we essentially lost our Saturday training day as people huddled beneath whatever cover they could and simply whiled the day away. Now Sunday and Monday the Cosmeston Miracle happened again, as it seems to do every year. The sun came out and the usual aray of sunburn started to appear. Don't you just love the British summer? It had been a while since we had all been together in such numbers and it was great to catch up and share the secrets of the winter projects. This year, a special guest from Australia joined us, on his way past, lousy sense of direction and timing :-) , to the Greek Festival on the following weekend. Students of history might JUST be able to spot him in the pictures. Just examine the armour carefully. We have linen, he has gold fittings... and I mean GOLD fittings. Impressive, and it was good to meet you Arthur. Greetings to all of his companions in OZ with the Ancient Hoplitikon of Melbourne and in the Sydney Ancients. ...........
... oh, and simple pride is responsible for publishing the picture below!!!!!
