Ancient Greek Festival

Event Report

Build the field and it will happen, or something like that. So with the help of Watford Grammar School (that's the field), Paul was determined to make it happen and indeed we did have a few visitors from the edges of the world.

Australia, Sweden, the USA and Greece were all represented, and we even had one or two visitors from other climes who came along to see what it was all about as well.

Sadly the marketing machine had not worked much of its magic and the crowd numbers were not as great as we had hoped, but that meant we had much more time to chat to those who did come. Which was a nice change for us, spending real time talking to the public rather than having to limit the time available in order to fit everyone in.

... and if anyone is curious, yes, reenactors are essentially the same the world over, slightly mad and definitely strange! We made a lot of new friendships though and truly hope that these will continue well into the future.

..scary?....

....not as much as this one...

Introducing 'princess' Alice, on her first reenactment adventure.....

.. a stand of arms..

.. now this is what I like, someone who knows her place!

The first of the 'Olympic events - the race in armour..

Get ready....

.....GO....

..and yes, Paul Allen did win!

(don't tell anyone, but he had been in training ALL winter)

..and the winner of the javelin. Ash, another victory for the Hoplite Association!

...and the third event - jumping with weights - well we are waiting for the photograph but that went to 'spartan' Steve. The HA cleaned the board against stiff competition from our overseas cousins. Many congratulations boys.

... Australian feet and Greek sandals - interesting combination...

.. a family at war???....
