Military Odyssey 2006Event ReportOne of the great things about Military Odyssey is the opportunity to mix with so many overseas reenactors who make the short trip over the channel to take part. We have made so many new friends in the past from all over Europe and it was really good to meet up again with them this year. One of the highlights was the garrison troops from Gibraltar and boy were they impressive! Well done lads. For us this was a game of two halves - wet and dry. The weather could not make up its mind and we were constantly covering equipment from the rain, rebuilding shelters that fell down and trying to keep the fire going. Talking of the fire, we actually made honey sweets on the display.. and they were edible!!! Every single one went and nobody suffered as a consequence. Marvelous. We also met many friends from the general public again from previous years and thanks to both you and the new ones made this year for your support. Particularly as once again we were the proud winners of the trophy for the Best Public Interaction. Oh, and many thanks to one young visitor, Alexander. For both his help in one of the displays we did and for calling by on his way home to congratulate us on our victory. It was very kind but don't forget - you played a little part in that as well. So thank you for your help. Overall, a wet but very happy bunch of Hoplites made their way home.
Here we have Alexander getting ready to help dress the hoplite..
