Military Odyssey 2027
The Hoplite Association will be returning to Military Odyssey, held at the Kent County Showground, Detling, over the August Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 28th to Monday 30th August 2027.
Military Odyssey is one of Europe’s largest multi-period living history events, bringing together more than 2,000 years of history through living history encampments, displays, demonstrations, military vehicles and large-scale battle re-enactments.
Throughout the three-day event, members of the Hoplite Association will be bringing the world of Ancient Greece to life. Visitors will be able to meet our re-enactors, explore reconstructed clothing, armour, weapons and equipment, and discover more about the lives of soldiers and civilians in the Greek world.
Come and talk to us about hoplite warfare, armour and weapons, clothing, society and everyday life, and take the opportunity to see reconstructed equipment at close quarters. Our aim is not simply to show what Greek warriors may have looked like, but to explain how our reconstructions are informed by surviving archaeological finds, ancient artwork and literary evidence.
The wider event features living history groups representing periods from the ancient world to modern conflicts, alongside arena displays, full-scale battlefield re-enactments, military vehicles, militaria and historical traders, model displays, food and drink, and entertainment throughout the weekend.
Military Odyssey is an excellent opportunity to experience an enormous range of history in one place and to meet the people who research, reconstruct and demonstrate it.
